According to Spanish media outlet Relevo, current Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is preparing to participate in the upcoming presidential election for the club.
Next year, Real Madrid will hold its presidential election. It was widely believed that incumbent president Florentino Perez would not seek re-election, thereby bringing to an end his 22-year reign over the ‘Galacticos’ in two separate stints. His age, now 77, and declining health were factors, as well as the fact that during his tenure, Real Madrid has won every possible honor in football. Stepping down at this point would be unprecedented and unparalleled.
However, Spanish media outlet Relevo presents a different narrative, suggesting that Florentino himself has not ruled out the possibility of contesting the next presidential election. Since his second ascension to the presidency of Real Madrid in 2009, Perez has led the club to unprecedented success. If he decides to stay on for another four years, it’s unlikely any rival would dare challenge him for the position. The final outcome could very well be that, for the fifth consecutive presidential election, there is only one candidate’s name on the ballot – Florentino Perez.
