On the early morning of June 15, Southampton Football Club, set to return to the Premier League for the new season, officially announced that 36-year-old veteran Adam Lallana has signed with the team on a free transfer, securing a one-year contract.
Lallana joined Southampton’s youth academy at the age of 12 and developed into a professional player there. Between 2006 and 2014, he made a total of 265 appearances for Southampton’s first team across all competitions, scoring 60 goals. He then moved to Liverpool in the summer of 2014 for a transfer fee of €31 million, where he enjoyed the pinnacle of his career.
His contract with Brighton was due to expire on June 30, and Lallana had previously confirmed that he would not be extending his stay with the club. Now, he will rejoin Southampton on a free transfer, returning to where his professional journey began.
