June 23rd – According to an official UEFA announcement, Dutch referee Danny Makkelie will take charge of the crucial Group B finale between Croatia and Italy.
Makkelie, 41, has been an internationally recognized FIFA referee since 2011, regularly officiating in various European club competitions and international matches. Apart from refereeing, he also serves as a police superintendent at the Rotterdam Police Department.
In this Euro tournament, he refereed the Germany vs Hungary fixture, where he issued four yellow cards. Germany won 2:0.
In the past, Makkelie oversaw Croatia’s narrow 1:0 victory over Russia in 2021. Historically, he has refereed Italy three times, with Italy securing two wins and one draw, remaining unbeaten.
