On July 11th, Shanghai Shenhua officially announced that Fernando has joined the team on loan.
The announcement reads as follows:
After friendly negotiations and reaching an agreement with Shandong Taishan Football Club and the player himself, Fernando is now joining Shanghai Shenhua Football Club on loan, with the loan period extending until the end of 2024.
Fernando was born in Brazil on March 16, 1993, standing at 175cm tall. He plays as a forward. His career began at the Brazilian Serie A powerhouse Flamengo Football Club. In 2015, Fernando joined Chongqing Lifan to make his debut in the Chinese Super League (CSL), subsequently moving on to Hebei FC, Guangzhou FC, and Shandong Taishan FC. He has made a total of 171 appearances for these teams, scoring 36 goals and providing 49 assists.
In October 2019, Fernando acquired Chinese citizenship and was included in the Chinese national team training roster in September 2020. On March 21, 2024, during the Asian Qualifiers for the World Cup against Singapore, Fernando made his debut for the national team. To date, he has represented China in four official matches and contributed one goal. As a skillful and speedy front-line attacker, Fernando’s addition will further strengthen Shenhua’s offensive power and enrich the team’s tactical play. We look forward to Fernando quickly integrating into the team and assisting Shenhua in achieving even better results in the upcoming multi-front battles.
