On July 12, the Swiss national team officially announced the extension of contracts with head coach Murat Yakin and assistant coach Francesco Colombo.
Official Announcement:
Murat Yakin took over as head coach of the national team in early August 2021. He secured qualification for the 2022 World Cup by topping his group in the European qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, advancing to the Round of 16 at the Qatar World Cup. Since February mid-2024, supported by assistant coach Francesco Colombo, he led the national team to reach the quarter-finals of the continental tournament held in Germany for the second time. Following the loss in the Round of 16 against Portugal, Switzerland has only lost one match out of their last 19 games, which was against Romania in the Euro qualifier (the quarter-final against England ended in a draw during regular time).
More information regarding the contract extension will be announced during a media event on Monday, July 15 at 4 PM local time.
