Over 40,000 English Fans Flock to Düsseldorf but Only a Fraction Get Tickets

Over 40,000 English Fans Flock to Düsseldorf but Only a Fraction Get TicketsAccording to British media reports, for the UEFA Euro quarter-final match between England and Switzerland, more than 40,000 English fans have descended upon Düsseldorf, yet only 6,700 tickets have been allocated to them. The vast majority of fans will have to watch from outside the stadium, though the good news is that alcohol is not restricted in the city.

The Esprit Arena in Düsseldorf, the venue for the England-Switzerland quarter-final, has a capacity of 47,000, with UEFA assigning 7,000 tickets each to fans of England and Switzerland, causing dissatisfaction among both fanbases.

Most of the tournament’s tickets had already been presold, with additional allocations given to sponsors. However, presold tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable, a policy that has drawn criticism.

Despite the majority of fans failing to secure tickets, over 40,000 English supporters have arrived in Düsseldorf, with most set to watch the game from outside the stadium or at venues showing the match, including shopping malls and bars.

In contrast to the match venue for England versus Serbia, which imposed restrictions on alcohol, Düsseldorf does not have a ban, and the city’s old town boasts over 300 bars, ensuring a decent viewing experience for English fans even if they can’t enter the ground.
