Owen: Neymar Should Consider a Move to the Premier League – London Would Suit His Style

Recently, English football legend Michael Owen expressed in an interview his hope that Neymar would transfer to a Premier League club, stating it would be “an excellent decision” from a commercial perspective.

Though a bold idea, Owen enthusiastically elaborated on his viewpoint, saying, “It would be interesting to see Neymar join the Premier League, but it depends on the financial situation of the clubs. He clearly has a huge reputation, and I believe that from a commercial standpoint, this would be an excellent decision for many. The only issue is the significant amount of money involved.”

Sportingly speaking, perhaps Neymar’s appeal isn’t what it once was, as he used to be mentioned in the same breath as Messi and Ronaldo. Owen didn’t shy away from this point: “Neymar’s name used to be mentioned alongside Messi and Ronaldo, but when discussing the strongest footballers in the world today, few still mention Neymar. Nevertheless, he remains incredibly talented, and if his wage demands aren’t too outrageous, I believe there will be clubs willing to take a chance.”

One of the biggest questions surrounding a potential Neymar transfer is whether his playing style would suit the high-intensity, high-press style commonly found in the Premier League. According to Owen, superstars always find a way to fit their game. Owen said, “I don’t think Neymar would adapt to Klopp or even Slot’s pressing style at Liverpool, but his technical ability and ability to draw defenders could find a place in a more technical team. He can create space for other attackers in the team, and that’s where his value lies.”

Owen believes that London would be the ideal destination for Neymar, saying, “I suspect Neymar would enjoy playing in London because it’s so vibrant. In the Premier League, Chelsea seems the most likely to bring in Neymar, and he would like their style. This transfer aligns with Chelsea’s strategy of signing high-profile players.”
