On August 30th, at the press conference for signing with Southampton, Aaron Ramsdale made a stunning appearance dressed as Hagrid from the Harry Potter series.
Ramsdale, wearing Hagrid’s signature outfit, participated in the signing ceremony with Southampton. Back in May, he had also appeared in the same costume at Wembley Stadium to cheer on his friend David Brooks, who was then playing for Bournemouth, in the Premier League promotion playoff final. In that match, Southampton defeated Leeds United 1-0, successfully returning to the Premier League.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Ramsdale explained this unique “cosplay” behavior: “Whenever our friends compete at Wembley, we dress up to cheer them on. Every time we do this, our friends win the game. Therefore, we will continue this tradition.”
With Ramsdale reuniting with Brooks this season, Southampton decided to have the English goalkeeper appear again as Hagrid, adding a touch of flair to his unveiling ceremony.
Ramsdale joined “The Saints” for a transfer fee of around £18 million. Last season, he lost his starting position at Arsenal, being replaced by David Raya.
Speaking about this transfer, Ramsdale said: “I’m tired of sitting on the bench and don’t want to experience that feeling anymore. Playing, winning games, and even facing tough opponents away or under difficult circumstances, brings the best sense of satisfaction.”
“We all hope to see the smiles on fans’ faces after matches; that joy is priceless. That is my goal this year. I just need to get back to my best form and go into every game with a smile.”
