Rare Technical Issues in the Champions League: No VAR Available for the Final Minutes of Inter’s Match

According to BOLAVIP, during the match between Inter Milan and Red Star Belgrade, the VAR system malfunctioned in the final 15 minutes.

In the San Siro Stadium, VAR issues arose in the closing stages of the game, preventing the referee from contacting VAR.

Inter Milan’s Taremi was about to take a penalty kick, and the referee’s hesitation puzzled the spectators.

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez also approached the referee, confused by the length of time needed to confirm such an obvious penalty. German referee Felix Zwayer quickly explained to the Argentine forward that he had not yet received the final decision from VAR.

Subsequently, Zwayer took an unprecedented step. He walked to the technical area to inform both teams of the situation and suggested continuing the game without VAR.

Since Inter Milan was already leading 3-0 by the 80th minute, and Taremi was about to take the penalty kick, which did not seem to affect the overall outcome, there were no objections from the benches. The Iranian forward seized the opportunity, scoring his first goal for Inter Milan, making the score 4-0.

Afterward, the match continued for 15 more minutes without VAR, including 10 minutes of regular time and 5 minutes of injury time, with everything proceeding smoothly.
