Romania Manager: We Played Well for the First Minutes, Netherlands Scored on Individual Brilliance

In the UEFA Euro round of 16 match, Gakpo scored and assisted, while Depay netted a brace coming off the bench, leading to Romania’s 0-3 defeat and elimination. After the game, Romania’s manager, Edi Iordănescu, spoke to the media.

Iordănescu said, “We tried to surprise the Dutch team, and I believe we did well until the 20th minute. We aimed to disrupt their connections and passing lines. We were competitive, creating the first significant chance. But they played top-quality football, and their first goal unbalanced us. Their three goals came from individual displays; players from top clubs know how to make a difference in key moments.”

“Romanians need to believe in themselves. If they do, they can create miracles. They must nurture and develop a new generation of players. They should look up to these boys as they gave their all.”

“Today, we close a great chapter, one that we started two years ago and continued with our fans in Germany. The team put in enormous effort, but there is also some sadness. We wanted more, but we left everything on the pitch. Thank you to my players, all the fans, and the Romanians supporting us worldwide.”
