According to Spanish newspaper AS, on July 21, Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli posted a statement on social media apologizing for his remarks about Paris Saint-Germain player Dembélé.

After concluding his coaching stint at Flamengo and stepping away from the pitch, Sampaoli has once again become the center of attention due to comments he made about Paris Saint-Germain player Dembélé in an interview. “You know he plays like someone with autism: starts an attack alone and finishes it alone too.”

This comment sparked controversy, leading Sampaoli to issue an apology via social media for the language he used.

Sampaoli stated: “I never intended to associate autism with Dembélé. I apologize to anyone who may have been offended, what I wanted to express was individualism. Now more than ever we need to be careful with our words.” He wrote this in his statement, which was also translated into Portuguese and French.

This is not the first time Sampaoli has found himself in controversy. Throughout his long coaching career, the Argentine coach, known for his unique personality, has frequently stirred up debate.

Sampaoli boasts extensive coaching experience, having managed clubs such as Sevilla, Santos, Marseille, and Flamengo, as well as the national teams of Chile and Argentina. In October 2023, Sampaoli was dismissed by Flamengo and is currently unemployed.
