According to Tariq Panja, a reporter for The New York Times, the Saudi owner of the Belgian club Beerschot is about to use his connections to send a group of outstanding young Saudi players to Beerschot to gain experience in European football.
Tariq Panja wrote on social media: “A group of the best young Saudi players will be sent to Beerschot in Belgium. The club’s owner, like Sheffield United, is the same Saudi prince. It is understood that executives in the Saudi league are frustrated as they had hoped to reach an agreement at the start of the summer transfer window.”
The predecessor of Beerschot went bankrupt in 2013, and after the club’s rebirth, it returned to the Belgian First Division A in the 20/21 season. In 2022, Beerschot was relegated to the second division but then returned to the top flight over the course of two seasons. After the first four rounds of this season, the team has one draw and three losses, with no wins, currently sitting second from the bottom in the Belgian First Division A with one point.
