In a recent interview with Transfermarkt, former French international Morgan Schneiderlin was asked whether the current French national team is stronger than the one that played in the 2016 UEFA European Championship.
Schneiderlin replied, “For me, yes, definitely (today’s France team is stronger than in 2016). Since 2012, the quality of French players has only increased, making it more difficult for the coach to select the squad. When I see that William Saliba, one of the best defenders in the Premier League with whom I played (in Nice) in 2021, isn’t even a starter… it’s fantastic. In 2016, we didn’t have such a broad range of individual talents.”
France is drawn in Group D alongside the Netherlands, Poland, and Austria for this edition of the Euros, with their opening match set against Austria.
