Scotland Manager: We Won’t Repeat Three Years Ago, Targeting Points in Final Match

At 3 a.m. on June 24, the final round of the European Championship group stage kicks off, with Scotland facing Hungary. Both teams currently have one point and still have hopes of advancing. Ahead of the match, Scotland’s manager Clarke spoke at a press conference, stating that they won’t repeat the outcome of three years ago, and their goal for the last game is to secure three points.

Scotland Manager: We Won't Repeat Three Years Ago, Targeting Points in Final Match

Back in the 2020 UEFA Euro, Scotland needed to win against Croatia in their final group match to advance to the Round of 16, but they were unsuccessful. Clarke remarked, “We feel good, we believe the scenario is the same — we need a victory in our final group game. That’s where we are now, just as we were in the previous tournament.”

“For us, it’s about nothing but three points, that’s all we’re focusing on. I don’t think there’s any other way around it. We need those three points to finish third in the group, and then we’ll see where that takes us in terms of the other groups’ results.”

We expect a tough match, and I’m sure the Hungarians also expect a challenging encounter. These are two similar teams, with similar squads and systems — hopefully, our system will be slightly better than theirs.
