A judge has ruled that the remains of the legendary Diego Maradona may be exhumed and relocated from his burial place in a cemetery in Buenos Aires. Maradona passed away in 2020 and has been laid to rest in the Bella Vista Cemetery in Buenos Aires until now.
Following Maradona’s death, Argentina was plunged into days of mourning, with a long procession held to bid farewell to the World Cup winner. Now, according to Relevo, his family will construct a mausoleum and open a memorial named “M10”. The mausoleum will be built in Puerto Madero, within walking distance of Plaza de Mayo in downtown Buenos Aires, close to La Boca, the location of Club Atlético Boca Juniors.
The mausoleum will be constructed on a lower platform facing the water and the exit of Isla de la Macacha, where Maradona will find “eternal rest, close to the Argentine people.”
Legal proceedings related to his death are still ongoing. In March, a judge will preside over a case brought by his daughters Dalma and Gianinna, who accuse his medical team of being responsible for his death.
