According to Spanish media Relevo, Barcelona player Fermín López recently streamed a LaLiga match via pirated channels. Despite LaLiga President Tebas’ extreme anger over this, they have no authority to sanction the players’ actions.
During the match between Valencia and Barcelona, Barcelona player Fermín López uploaded a screenshot of the live broadcast on his personal social platform with the message “Come on everyone,” and tagged the official account of FC Barcelona, which he later deleted.
This post was quickly seen by LaLiga President Tebas, who expressed extreme anger over it. Combating pirated streaming is one of the tasks of the LaLiga association; allowing piracy to proliferate would significantly impact LaLiga’s broadcasting revenue.
Upon investigation, it turned out that Fermín’s actions were unrelated to FC Barcelona. However, the LaLiga association will inform Barcelona of their concerns about what happened to prevent similar incidents from recurring. But apart from commenting on the situation between institutions, in terms of any potential consequences of Fermín’s actions, LaLiga actually has no sanctioning power; they can only file a complaint with the Competition Committee, which seems unlikely at this point.
