June 28 – According to Spanish outlet Marca, referee Hilario Mansano will not officiate any more matches in this edition of the European Championship, with an official announcement expected in a few hours.
Mansano is the only Spanish referee in this Euro. He was suspended in the Spanish La Liga last season for disallowing a Real Madrid winning goal, but that didn’t prevent him from being the sole representative of Spain as a referee in the tournament. He oversaw France’s narrow 1-0 victory over Austria.
During that match, French forward Kylian Mbappe suffered a facial injury after an accidental collision, forcing him to wear a mask for the remainder of the Euro.
The VAR assistant referee, Hernandez, will also not be involved in the upcoming Euro fixtures.
