According to Sport, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco met with Pedri’s agent, Hector Peris, to discuss the contract extension of the young midfielder.
It is understood that the meeting between Deco and Peris lasted for an hour and a half. The club considers Pedri a key player in their short-term and long-term sporting project and has already started working on extending his contract.
Pedri’s current contract expires on June 30, 2026, and includes a release clause of 1 billion euros. This amount makes it difficult for any club to sign him. However, Barcelona hopes to extend the contract duration, and both parties have had their first meeting regarding this matter. The meeting in the sporting director’s office was a preliminary contact between the two sides. After the meeting, the player and his agent left the sports city separately by car.
In the Euro Cup quarter-final match against Germany, Pedri suffered a grade two sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee due to a foul by Toni Kroos. Despite this, Pedri made it back in time for the opening of La Liga and appeared in the first round of matches at the Mestalla Stadium. So far this season, he has not missed any of Barcelona’s games and has become a key player in Flick’s tactical setup. Whether playing in the central organizing role or slightly further forward, Pedri has performed excellently, scoring a total of two goals.
