According to Spanish outlet Sport, recently retired Spanish midfielder Thiago is currently considering joining the Barcelona coaching staff to reunite with his former manager, Flick.
Last week, the 33-year-old Thiago announced his retirement on his personal social media. However, despite officially ending his playing career, Thiago is not expected to leave the football world just yet.
Now, according to Sport, Thiago is in talks with Barcelona and is expected to become a member of the team’s coaching staff, reuniting with Flick, his former manager at Bayern Munich. As an ex-player for both Barcelona and Bayern, Thiago is fluent in both Spanish and German, making him an ideal liaison between head coach Flick and the players.
There are indications that Thiago might initially take up this position for half a year, during which time he will assist Flick in gradually acclimatizing to the club, as well as help him learn Spanish and familiarize himself with local culture. In Flick’s current coaching staff, there is only one assistant who speaks Spanish, so Thiago’s addition would be a significant boost.
From Thiago’s perspective, Barcelona is also his own youth training alma mater. If this return is successful, it would be a welcome outcome for both parties.
