TA: Chelsea Omit Tammy Chalobah from US Tour Squad, Signaling Player’s Marginalization

July 24 – In the recently announced squad list for Chelsea’s US tour, Tammy Chalobah, a product of the club’s youth academy, is notably absent and will not be traveling with the team to the United States for pre-season preparations. According to sports media outlet The Athletic (TA), this exclusion signals Chelsea’s intention to sideline the player.

Previously, Chelsea invested heavily in the acquisitions of defenders like Disasi and Fofana, and this summer signed Adarabioyo on a free transfer. The club believes that Chalobah has not reached the level of other academy graduates such as Colwill and Reece James, leading to his likely departure. Last season, Chalobah missed most of the games due to a hamstring injury. However, after February, he started 13 matches, during which Chelsea lost only one game.

Currently, there are no transfer plans in place, and excluding him from the US tour squad is intended to draw attention from other clubs and send a market signal.

The 25-year-old Chalobah plays as a defender, capable of filling the right center-back position in a back three or the right-back role in a four-man defense. He has made a total of 80 appearances for Chelsea’s first team, scoring five goals and providing one assist. His current market value, according to Transfermarkt, is €13 million.
