The Athletic reports that Sachin Gupta, the Vice President of Basketball Operations for the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves, is set to leave the organization to take on a senior role at Chelsea.
Gupta joined the Timberwolves in 2019 and has been serving as the Vice President of Basketball Operations since 2021. He also previously held roles with the Houston Rockets and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Chelsea’s performance over the past few seasons has fallen short of expectations, and there has been recent instability within the club’s upper management, with rumors of serious disagreements between Boehly and another major shareholder. It is expected that at Chelsea’s next shareholders’ meeting, Gupta will be officially appointed to the club’s board of directors. According to some media outlets, Gupta will primarily oversee data analysis and future strategic planning.
