The Mail: Newcastle set to sell Gordon to Liverpool, but terms not met - talks could resume this weekend

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are prepared to sell winger Gordon to Liverpool, but their demand for a player in return, namely Kostas Tsimikas, has been rejected.

Newcastle need to sell players by June 30 to comply with profit and sustainability rules, or risk a Premier League points deduction. Sources have confirmed that, despite reluctance, selling Gordon has been one of the avenues they have been exploring.

While Liverpool appreciates Gordon, the proposed deal – reportedly including defender Tsimikas – does not suit them. They are unwilling to part with Tsimikas, whom they view as a future England international and a strong presence on the flanks.

If different terms can be agreed upon, Liverpool might proceed with the transaction, but they did not make an offer after discussions with the Magpies. Talks could recommence over the weekend. Should the sale of Gordon go through, Newcastle might look to sign former Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga as a replacement.

It’s worth noting that Anthony Gordon initially came through Liverpool’s academy but was released due to being “too lightweight,” eventually joining their rivals Everton before his move to Newcastle.
