Transfermarkt has compiled a list of the top ten teams with the highest net investment during the 2024 summer transfer window in Europe’s top five leagues. Brighton tops the chart with a net spend of 193 million euros, while Napoli and Ipswich take second and third place respectively.
The term “net investment” refers to the net expenditure after deducting the proceeds from player sales from the spending on new signings. At the top of the list is Brighton, who have spent a net amount of 193 million euros, bringing in several new players such as Rutter from Leeds United, Mait from Newcastle, Veef from Feyenoord, Gruda from Mainz, Kadıoğlu from Fenerbahçe, Aureil from Celtic, and Ibrahim Osman from North Zealand.
The second spot is taken by Napoli, now under Conte’s management, with a net investment of 138 million euros, signing players like Buonciano, McTominay, Lukaku, Neres, Gilmore, and Rafa Marin. Ipswich, which spent a net amount of 125 million euros, ranks third, having brought in high-priced new signings such as Hutchinson, Greaves, Draper, Jack Clarke, and Dara O’Shea.
In addition to these, other teams that invested over 100 million euros in net terms include Manchester United (112 million euros, ranked 4th), Lyon (105 million euros, ranked 5th), Paris Saint-Germain (104 million euros, ranked 6th), and West Ham United (100 million euros, ranked 7th).
Tottenham Hotspur ranks 8th with a net investment of 94 million euros, Atlético Madrid ranks 9th with a net investment of 91 million euros, and Chelsea ranks 10th with a net investment of 86 million euros.
This summer’s ranking differs significantly from last summer’s, where the top spots in the net investment list of the top five leagues were occupied by major clubs (Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain).
