The Telegraph: Chelsea's Plan to Sign a Goalkeeper is True, But Lunin is Not on the List

According to The Telegraph, it is true that Chelsea hopes to sign a goalkeeper this summer, but Lunin is not among their targets as he does not fit the profile of the goalkeeper they are looking for.

With Maresca becoming Chelsea’s new head coach, Robert Sanchez is also considered to be the starting goalkeeper for the new season, which has raised concerns about Petkovic’s future at the club. Petkovic became the team’s first-choice goalkeeper under Pochettino last season, but with the arrival of Maresca, Robert Sanchez is believed to better suit Maresca’s style.

The Telegraph believes that under Maresca, Chelsea should initiate attacks from the goalkeeper position, requiring a keeper who is good at ball control and willing to come forward boldly. Although Sanchez has shown signs in training that he can do this, Chelsea feels they need another goalkeeper with similar qualities to compete with the Spaniard. Even though Petkovic is highly rated, there are concerns that the gap between him and Sanchez may be too large if Maresca needs or wants to make changes.

Given that Chelsea will be competing on multiple fronts in the upcoming new season, Maresca will need to rotate his squad across different matches, making the goalkeeper position crucial. Chelsea is unlikely to follow in Manchester United’s footsteps by signing Onana; instead, they are more eager to find a goalkeeper who can develop and then compete with Sanchez. While Spanish media reports suggest Chelsea is interested in signing Lunin, Lunin is not the type of goalkeeper Chelsea has in mind.
