2024 Copa América Knockout Stage Regulations
The knockout stage consists of quarterfinals, semifinals, third-place play-off, and the final. For all matches except the final, if the game is tied after 90 minutes, a penalty shootout will immediately decide the winner. In the final, if the teams are level after regular time, two 15-minute extra time periods will be played. If the score remains tied after extra time, a penalty shootout will determine the victor.
Reviewing recent Copa América regulations, the 2021 edition had the same knockout rules as this year, while the 2019 Copa América was different. In the 2019 quarterfinals, if the teams were tied after regular time, the winner was decided by a penalty shootout; for the semifinals, final, and third-place match, if the teams couldn’t be separated after 90 minutes, an extra time of two 15-minute halves was played, followed by a penalty shootout if necessary.
