August 2 – According to multiple UK media outlets, Chelsea has informed midfielder Gallagher that due to his refusal to accept a contract extension or agree to a transfer, he will be temporarily excluded from the first team squad when he reports back to the club next week.
It is understood that Chelsea has accepted Atlético Madrid’s offer for the player, but Gallagher is not keen on leaving the club. The 24-year-old’s contract with Chelsea expires in June next year, and he has turned down two recent two-year contract extension offers from the club, as he is not satisfied with the duration of the contracts. Gallagher prefers to sign a longer-term deal with Chelsea.
According to UK media, Chelsea has directly informed the player that upon the team’s return from their tour in the United States, he will not train with the first team. The reason given is that the player does not fit into head coach Maresca’s ball possession tactical approach.
