UK Media: Snapdragon Interested in Naming Rights for Manchester United's Home Stadium, Seeks Future Commercial Matches in China

August 5 – According to The Daily Telegraph, Snapdragon, Manchester United’s shirt sponsor, is interested in acquiring the naming rights for the club’s home stadium.

Last month, Snapdragon announced a deal worth £180 million over three years to become Manchester United’s new shirt sponsor. The financially robust club is inclined towards building a new stadium with a capacity of 100,000 on land adjacent to Old Trafford. After consultations with fans, a decision is expected by the end of the year.

Alternatively, Manchester United may opt to redevelop Old Trafford itself, in which case the stadium’s name would be retained and the sponsor might use a softer branding approach.

Building a new stadium would require more than £2 billion; however, if Manchester United chooses to rebuild Old Trafford, the cost could be controlled at around £1.2 billion. The club is also exploring various financing options and ways to maximize its revenue.

Currently, Snapdragon is collaborating with Manchester United to develop technologies that can enhance the matchday experience for fans. A senior executive from Snapdragon’s parent company, Qualcomm, stated, “We are working closely with Manchester United to reimagine Old Trafford and Carrington from a technology and innovation perspective. The name of Old Trafford will never change, but the brand can be sponsored in some other form.”

Additionally, Snapdragon is keen to partner with Manchester United for future commercial matches, including in countries such as China and India.
