August 4 – According to multiple UK media outlets, including The Mirror and The Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are currently pursuing Bournemouth forward Dominic Solanke. The player is reportedly willing to join Spurs, but Bournemouth are attempting to deter Tottenham by invoking a £65 million release clause in the hopes of keeping Solanke for another season.
Recently, Solanke posted a story on social media featuring a character from Naruto, captioned, “No dream is out of reach, no goal is too ambitious. Dare to dream, dare to achieve.” This post is seen as a signal of Solanke’s interest in joining Spurs, while Tottenham are in urgent need of signing a forward to strengthen their squad.
Following Spurs’ pre-season friendly match against Bayern Munich in South Korea, the head coach addressed the matter, saying, “Given our current squad, we’re probably weakest in the forward positions, so that’s clearly an area of focus. We look forward to ending the game positively, hoping to conclude things well.”
However, Bournemouth owner Bill Foley recently stated that he expects Solanke to stay for at least one more season. The Cherries boss said, “I believe Solanke will be with us next year. He has a release clause, which is very expensive.”
The 26-year-old Solanke, who came through Chelsea’s youth system before moving to Liverpool, made 42 appearances (39 starts) for Bournemouth last season, scoring 21 goals and providing four assists. Currently, his market value is €40 million. If the transfer goes through, Liverpool is expected to receive 20% of the transfer fee.
