On August 22, Wang Chuqin, the mixed doubles champion at the Paris Olympic Games, recently revealed to the media the reason for his exit in the singles event. He explained that it was not due to changing rackets, but rather, the mental fatigue was completely beyond his imagination.
Wang Chuqin said: “After finishing the mixed doubles final and completing the doping test, it was already 6:30 PM, then it took another hour to get back to the Olympic Village. After that, there was eating, meetings, video review, and treatment. I had to get up at 6:00 AM the next day, so there wasn’t much time to rest. I think if the match that day had been in the evening, everything might have been different.”
“I think the biggest regret is that I couldn’t adapt to the workload of three events at the Olympics. Even after playing all three events for two years, the physical reaction and pain, as well as the mental fatigue, were completely beyond my imagination after playing mixed doubles, singles, and a defensive style match. I think the greatest regret is this point. This was all due to my own performance, not because of what others say about the racket. I believe this is the goal set for me by fate for the next cycle.”
