Recently, Lamine Yamar’s grandmother clarified her grandson’s nationality issue during a television interview, emphasizing that the 17-year-old prodigy was “born and raised” in Spain, not Morocco.
During an interview with La Tres, Yamar’s grandmother said, “He was born here and he grew up here. This child is not from Morocco, do you understand what I mean?”
She further explained, “My son (Munir Naslauoi) did not force him to do anything… he has the right to freely choose which country to represent.”
The grandmother’s remarks revealed a sensitive topic: the controversy sparked in the Moroccan community by Yamar’s choice to play for Spain, with some viewing it as a betrayal of Morocco. “It’s his compatriots who say this, they feel this child should play for Morocco, but he chose Spain,” a local resident stated.
