Jakarta – Marc Marquez, a rider for the Gresini Racing team, encountered front-end issues while braking, causing him and his motorcycle to crash during the 2024 MotoGP in the United States.
The Spaniard had led the American MotoGP race, which took place at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas, early Monday morning, Indonesian Western Time. However, Marquez had to abandon his lead after falling when there were only ten laps remaining.
“I’m quite satisfied because we were at the front, we were fast, and giving our all. Unfortunately, we had a front-end issue under braking, and I felt uncomfortable, struggling in the last lap. The accident happened because I couldn’t do anything to overcome it,” Marquez said, as quoted by ANTARA, on Monday, March 15th.
The eight-time world champion expressed optimism that the Gresini Racing team would find the best solution for the challenges encountered in this American round.
Marquez is confident he can make a significant impact in the 2024 Jerez MotoGP, scheduled for April 28th, at the Jerez circuit in Spain.
“We did well, and I believe we will solve the issue that happened today, just like we have done with other issues before. We’ll try to compete again in Jerez,” the 31-year-old rider stated.
Marquez also experienced an incident in the previous series where he was unable to compete for the top position, battling for fifth place in the 2024 Portimao Portugal MotoGP race.
He collided with Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia with only two laps remaining. After the incident, Marquez managed to continue, finishing the race in 16th place.
In the meantime, the Grand Prix of the Americas was won by Maverick Vinales of the Aprilia team, who finished 41 minutes and 9.503 seconds ahead of Pedro Acosta of Red Bull GasGas Tech3, securing second place. The final podium spot was claimed by Ducati Lenovo’s Enea Bastianini.
Vinales’ victory has intensified the battle for the 2024 MotoGP championship. He now ranks third with 56 points, just three points behind second-placed Bastianini. Jorge Martin remains at the top of the standings with 80 points.
