Jakarta – Defending MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia once again topped the timesheets on the second day of pre-season testing at the Lusail circuit in Qatar on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
The Italian rider finished with a time of 1 minute 59.952 seconds, setting an unofficial lap record in the process.
Better known as Pecco, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider outpaced his teammate Enea Bastianini by 0.120 seconds.
The result on the final day added to Bagnaia’s impressive record in the pre-season, having been the fastest on the first day in Qatar and topping the timesheets in Sepang previously.
Aleix Espargaro of Aprilia secured third place, 0.308 seconds adrift from Bagnaia, who remains the favorite for the championship battle this season.
Mark Marquez, defending for the Gresini Racing team, emerged as the top satellite Ducati rider, finishing fourth, followed by Raul Fernandez of the Trackhouse Aprilia team.
Maverick Vinales, Espargaro’s teammate, secured sixth place, ensuring three Aprilia bikes in the top six. Following him were Ducati riders Jorge Martin (Pramac) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46), the winner of the race in November.
Brad Binder of KTM took ninth place, followed by Marco Bezzecchi, who represents Valentino Rossi’s VR46 squad.
