Jakarta – Aleix Espargaro triumphed in the 2024 Catalan MotoGP Sprint Race on Saturday, May 25th, at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Right from the start, he faced intense competition from Francesco Bagnaia, Pedro Acosta, and Raul Fernandez.
Unfortunately, this pressure pushed Espargaro back to fifth place. Raul Fernandez took the lead after the second lap.
Acosta and Bagnaia were right behind Fernandez, battling it out during the first two laps.
Brad Binder was also in the fight for the front group. He managed to overtake Acosta and Bagnaia, securing second position.
However, in the middle of the 12-lap race, Pecacca made an appearance.
Starting with Bagnaia’s fall in the fifth lap, the focused Raul Fernandez crashed in Turn 10 on lap six while leading.
Binder, who had taken over the lead, experienced a similar fate in the next lap at Turn 5.
This marked the beginning of Espargaro’s comeback. By the eighth lap, he was pointing at the front runners.
Acosta became the victim of Espargaro’s surge to the front. The Aprilia Racing rider was shadowed by Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin.
Then, a fierce battle for the third podium spot unfolded between Martin and Acosta, with Acosta eventually securing the position until the end.
Aleix Espargaro continued to make headlines even after deciding to retire, particularly at the end of the 2024 MotoGP season.
He had previously secured pole position for the 2024 Catalan MotoGP race, which started on Sunday, May 26th.
