Last October, the FIM and Dorna announced that Cremona, Italy, would host a round of the WorldSBK Superbike Championship in the 2024 season, signing a five-year agreement (2024-2028). The Cremona event, the tenth on the calendar, is scheduled for September 20-22, 2024.
The Cremona racetrack is not a new facility; it was constructed in July 2011 as San Martino del Lago, featuring a main circuit and a kart track. The original main track was 3.45 kilometers long, which was expanded to 3.702 kilometers between January and April 2021. Following the confirmation for WorldSBK, the circuit underwent renovations, including layout enhancements, surface renewal, and spectator facilities expansion. Now measuring 3.768 kilometers in length, it runs anticlockwise with thirteen turns (seven left and six right); sections T11 to T13 have undergone specific improvements. New stands have been built, providing seating for 20,000 spectators, and the track surface features traditional red and gray hues from the Cremona region.
To familiarize teams and riders with the new layout, WorldSBK will hold a private test session on May 23-24 at the Cremona Circuit, offering them their first opportunity to acquaint themselves with the track.
