Jakarta – Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, stated that the 2024 Pertamina Indonesian MotoGP and ARRC events are not only world-class motorcycle races but also an opportunity for sports tourism in Indonesia.
Erick continued by saying that in recent years, the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit has proven its ability to enhance Indonesia’s national brand at an international level and contribute to improving Indonesia’s reputation worldwide.
“We have the chance to capture the world’s attention while maximizing benefits for the community and the local economy, and affirming Mandalika as the ‘Ultimate Lifestyle Sports Destination’,” he said during the 2024 ARRC and Pertamina Indonesian MotoGP Press Briefing on Friday, June 21, at Tenar Danareksa in Jakarta.
“I am optimistic that the ARRC and Pertamina’s Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix are not just motorcycle races, but a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to promote Indonesia, particularly Mandalika, as a world-class sports destination,” Erick added.
Furthermore, Erick mentioned that the Ministry of SOEs fully supports international events held at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit.
“Good synergy among all parties will ensure the smooth running of the ARRC and the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia-MotoGP 2024, providing a unique experience for visitors and racers,” he said.
In the meantime, Dony Oskaria, President of InJourney, stated that this year, InJourney, together with relevant stakeholders, is committed to enhancing the quality of implementation.
“The staging of the ARRC and the Pertamina 2024 Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix is crucial to demonstrate Indonesia’s commitment to sustainable tourism. The trust of international partners and the government must be maintained as proof of SOEs’ contribution to the nation and country; hence, the success of the event is our top priority,” Dony remarked.
For reference, the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, located in The Mandalika, Central Lombok Regency, NTB, is set to host the 2024 Pertamina Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix for the third time, from September 27-28, and the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) for the second time, from July 26-28.
