Jakarta – In the 2022 MotoGP World Championship triumph, Francesco Bagnaia, riding for Ducati Lenovo, credits his mentor Valentino Rossi for his success. Bagnaia acknowledges Rossi as one of the most influential figures in his career, instrumental to his championship win.
Bagnaia recounts that he asked Rossi to be his coach, knowing it was challenging for him to balance racing and family life. They maintained constant communication, discussing race strategies and areas for improvement over the phone, “Throughout the season, we talked on every race day,” Bagnaia says on the MotoGP official website.
He adds that Rossi’s presence on the track allowed him to receive guidance and feedback, and even served as a source of emotional control, as the doctor reminded Bagnaia about maintaining composure behind the wheel.
“He’s been an idol in our family. He taught me to stay calm, enjoy every moment, and celebrate at the right time. His calmness and simplicity are invaluable,” Bagnaia quotes from Antara, January 17, Tuesday.
Moreover, Bagnaia emphasizes that his team, too, played a significant role alongside his mentor, with a teammate named Pecco also contributing to their success.
“On the day I signed with Ducati, I promised we’d become world champions together. I knew combining our skills would lead to great achievements,” he explains.
Notably, since claiming the pinnacle of motorcycle racing glory, Bagnaia’s life has undergone significant changes, as he reflects on his new status.
“I still pinch myself when I think about being the world champion. But it’s even more rewarding to realize I’m the fastest motorcycle racer in the world,” Bagnaia shares.
