Jakarta – Valentino Rossi’s VR46 team could become a satellite team for either KTM or Yamaha in the 2025 MotoGP season.
Currently, VR46 is in the final year of its contract as a Ducati satellite team. Although there’s an option to extend for another two years, the possibility of switching manufacturers has started to open up.
“The most important thing is that we have a two-year (extension) option with Ducati, which is advantageous for us,” VR46 team boss Alessio Salucci said, as reported by GPOne.
Besides KTM, the team owned by the MotoGP legend is also linked with Yamaha. This potential option stems from Rossi’s good relationship with the Japanese manufacturer and his role as a Yamaha brand ambassador.
Salucci is open to both possibilities and even staying with Ducati. He asserts that these three choices will be decided upon by his team later on.
“I’ve talked to everyone, and I’m not ashamed to say it: Ducati, KTM, Yamaha,” he said.
For the 2024 MotoGP season, VR46 loses Luca Marini, who has decided to move to Repsol Honda to replace Marc Marquez. In contrast, VR46 has signed Fabio Di Giannantonio.
Giannantonio will join Marco Bezzecchi at VR46. Bezzecchi, who secured his first premier class win last season, chose to stay with the team instead of moving to a better bike at Pramac Racing.
