Alex Marquez Reveals What It Takes to Make Marc Leave Honda

Jakarta – Rider Alex Marquez has disclosed what it would take for his older brother, Marc Marquez, to leave the Repsol Honda team he is currently defending. Alex expressed disappointment in Honda’s performance during the Valencia MotoGP test, where Marc finished in 13th place with a record time of 0.644 seconds, trailing Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Ducati) as the fastest.

Alex acknowledged that this was not just a moment of doubt for Marc, who has also been frustrated by the slow start of the 2023 prototype bike season. “After the test, we were both silent with each other. Marc was upset. I asked if he had tried anything new on his bike, and he confirmed but said it didn’t make any difference,” Marquez shared from Speedweek on Tuesday, December 27th.

“Then I simply told him that Ducati is different. He’s my brother, but I want to beat him,” he added. Despite the challenges last season, Marc remains determined to compete in the 2023 MotoGP World Championship, but injuries and missed races led to a less competitive position.

Alex believes that if Honda fails to provide a competitive bike for the upcoming season, Marc might start considering a change. “I think if Honda takes the necessary step forward, Marc won’t leave. That’s why his team waited for him and respected him when he was injured,” he elaborated.

However, he admits, “If the bike isn’t good enough for the championship, then it’s possible,” he explained, hinting at the potential for Marc’s exit from Honda.
