Jakarta – Alex Rins announced that Suzuki will return to the 2023 MotoGP World Championship. The Spaniard made the revelation on his Instagram and Twitter accounts.
The posts created a buzz among users of the two social media giants. This is because Suzuki previously announced its withdrawal from the prestigious competition next year.
In the upload, Rins included a photo of a Suzuki GSX-RR motorcycle, but not with its usual blue livery. Instead, he changed the iconic Suzuki blue to his favorite color, red.
“Introducing AR42. The team for MotoGP 2023,” the 27-year-old rider tweeted.
The image also featured Livio Suppo, who was once the manager of the Suzuki Ecstar team during the 2022 season after Davide Brivio’s departure, which left the team in a challenging position.
Rins further explained that an agreement has been reached with Suzuki to compete under the AR42 banner, with Suppo’s support as a highly renowned team manager.
“Together with a very famous team boss @livio.suppo. Thanks to all the partners that made this possible,” he added.
At first glance, it seemed legitimate. However, in a subsequent tweet, Rins clarified that his post was just a whim, coinciding with December 28th.
In Spain, this date is known as “Dia de Los Santos Inocentes,” similar to April Fool’s Day, where people play pranks on those they love. In Indonesia, it’s a day when one can share fake news without consequences.
“If you believed this guy, I’m sorry. Today is El Día de los Santos Inocentes in Spain, our April Fool’s Day, when we play jokes on those we love,” he tweeted.
Following Suzuki’s confirmation of its exit from the premier motorcycle racing championship, Rins has already secured a new team for MotoGP 2023. The Spanish rider will join LCR Honda.
