Jakarta – Indonesia is set to host a series of international motorcycle races, from MotoGP to the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) and the Asian Road Racing Championship.

The central chairman of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI), Bambang Soesatyo, believes Indonesia can be a great organizer. He says the country is maturing in its ability to host various world motorsport championships.

This is evident in the successful hosting of several international racing events in 2022, including WSBK, MotoGP, and Formula E.

“It’s like the President (Joko Widodo), who is also determined that Indonesia can host world motorsport championships, both two-wheeled and four-wheeled, whether on asphalt or off-road,” Bamsoet said during the IMI National Congress 2022 on Saturday, February 18th, as quoted.

Bamsoet stated that 2023 is an appropriate year for Indonesia to showcase its readiness for various motorsport championships.

The F1 Powerboat World Championship, scheduled for February 24-26 in Lake Toba, will kick off Indonesia’s series of international motorsport events.

The Mandalika International Street Circuit will host the 2023 FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK) from March 3-5, followed by the Jakarta E-Prix on June 3-4.

In the same month, MXGP Samota, Sumbawa, will take place on July 25, and the Motocross Grand Prix will be held in Lombok on July 2, 2023.

Additionally, MotoGP riders are set to visit Mandalika again on October 15.

The 2023 Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) at Lake Toba is planned to be held in two rounds. The first race, Round 7, is set for September 22-23, with the second race, Round 9, scheduled for November 24-26.

“We strongly hope that this year’s APRC in Medan will be successful and encourage the hosting of a World Rally Championship in Indonesia. It’s already mature,” Bamsoet said.

“Moreover, the President encourages us to lobby immediately so that we can hold an F1 in Indonesia. Initial negotiations were tough, but it’s still possible for 2025; however, we’re lobbying and negotiating to make it happen in 2024,” he continued.
