Jakarta – The organizers of MotoGP have praised the Mandalika Circuit, which hosted the Indonesian MotoGP event from October 13-15. FIM MotoGP Safety Officer Tome Alfonso highlighted the achievements of the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA), as the track manager, during the inaugural event last season. The circuit faced criticism for its poor quality and surface condition.
Revealing these compliments, Alfonso said on October 12, “They had sufficient time to work. There have been some improvements since the last MotoGP event there (in 2022). The track resurfacing is complete, and actually, WSBK races are already underway,” quoting MotoGP’s YouTube channel.
Before the second MotoGP event at Mandalika, a WSBK race took place first as part of thorough preparations. MGPA continues to make strides based on feedback received. One example is the track renovation carried out by MGPA before the WSBK Mandalika 2022 event in October or November 2022.
“Certainly, after WSBK, our first priority was to speak with the riders and gather their feedback, which was quite positive,” explained Alfonso. “According to the information we received from WSBK riders, the MotoGP race should take place under normal conditions and as planned,” he added.
After observing the improved track quality post-resurfacing, Alfonso expressed his excitement for the 2023 Mandalika MotoGP. “We are very confident that the 2023 MotoGP at Mandalika will be more promising following the track renovation compared to the previous one,” he stated.
