A Long-Awaited Triumph
Canter finally claimed his first DP World Tour title this year, earning nearly 400,000 euros in prize money and advancing to eighth place in the Dubai Race standings. In December, he had come so close at the AfriSam Mauritius Open, but fell short by two strokes. Starting from the second round, Canter maintained his top position, ultimately outlasting Giorgio Molinari for the crown.

His consistent play was remarkable, with only one bogey in the first two rounds, where he scored 11 birdies and an eagle. Holding onto a lead on a challenging course required minimizing errors, and Canter did just that, finishing with a standard-par third round and a -1 score in the final round, sealing the victory with a two-shot margin.

Reflecting on the win, Canter expressed his joy, “This has always been my goal – to win on the DP World Tour,” adding, “But this is not the end. It gives me opportunities. To climb the rankings and compete in major events, I need to learn how to win. I believe that’s what it takes to gain confidence. I hope this means I can keep pushing forward and improving.”

Focal Players
At 27, South African player Terence Lawrence, who already has four DP World Tour crowns, showcased his prowess with a -5 score in the fourth round, lifting him 12 spots to second. Had he not struggled with a +4 start, the tournament’s outcome could have been different.

Danish golfer Niclas Norgaard Møller, who was in contention for the title, faltered in the final round, dropping from a strong position after a bogey and double bogeys, finishing fourth with a +1 score.

Giorgio Molinari, who shared the lead with Canter after the third round, suffered a disastrous +5 score in the last round, with four bogeys, a double bogey, and a missed birdie opportunity, ending at 7-under for the tournament, placing him in T8.

Defending champion Tom Mc Bride failed to reclaim the title but still finished with a respectable -7 score and eighth place, demonstrating his potential as a young player at 21 years old.
