In the third practice session of the British F1 Grand Prix, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team’s Russell topped the timesheets with a lap of 1 minute 37.529 seconds, followed by his teammate Hamilton and Norris in second and third positions. Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu improved his times gradually on soft tires, eventually finishing in 19th place.
Before the start of the third practice, heavy rain persisted at the circuit, prompting drivers to switch to soft tires for qualifying simulations.
Right at the beginning of the session, Red Bull Racing’s Verstappen spun on track, indicating slippery conditions.
Shortly after, Alpine F1 Team’s Gasly experienced a lock-up on entry, causing him to slide sideways on the wet surface, eventually ending up in the gravel trap. Unable to recover, the red flag was shown.
Five minutes later, the session resumed, reminiscent of the red flag in second practice due to Tsunoda’s penalty.
Upon resumption, Alfa Romeo F1 Team’s Bottas also lost control but managed to avoid the gravel trap as he rejoined the track. He reported to his team a lack of grip during the radio communication.
As the session progressed, track conditions improved, and drivers continuously set faster laps, with Hamilton, Verstappen, and Sainz currently occupying the top three positions.
Nearing the end of the third practice, the top three positions were held by the home favorites: Russell, Hamilton, and Norris.
Finally, let’s take a look at the bottom ten drivers’ standings: Albon, Stroll, Sargeant, Tsunoda, Bottas, Ocon, Magnussen, Ricciardo, Zhou Guanyu, and Gasly.
