During the second practice session of the Australian F1 Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc from the Ferrari F1 team set the fastest lap time with a 1:17.277, while Max Verstappen of Red Bull F1 and Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz secured second and third positions respectively. Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu improved his pace to finish in eleventh place.
Just 10 minutes into the session, most drivers had already completed their flying laps. Fernando Alonso briefly topped the timesheets with a 1:18.805, followed by Mercedes’ Russell and McLaren’s Norris in second and third.
Later, Leclerc, after switching to a new set of soft tires, improved his time to 1:18.265, 0.430 seconds quicker than Perez.
Williams’ Nicholas Latifi slid off the track and produced a cloud of smoke due to a mistake while cornering.
This weekend, several drivers have experienced slides at Albert Park Circuit. Russell from Mercedes also overcooked a turn and had to run through the grassy runoff area.
In the latter part of the second session, Verstappen, using a fresh set of soft tires, improved his personal best. His car had suffered from floor issues during the first practice, which the engineers had just fixed.
