The 2024 French Open entered its eighth day of main draw action, with the Round of 16 singles matches taking center stage. YONEX-sponsored player and former finalist Markéta Vondroušová overcame a slow start to defeat Serbian qualifier Danilovic, 6-4, 6-2, advancing to the women’s singles quarterfinals at Roland Garros for the first time since 2019.

After dropping her serve early, Vondroušová found her rhythm, breaking back twice in the seventh and ninth games of the opening set to win it 6-4. In the second set, the Czech player took control, breaking in the opening game and racing to a 2-0 lead. As the match progressed, Danilovic’s spirits waned, and Vondroušová closed out the victory with three consecutive games from 3-2, sealing the win 6-2. This marks Vondroušová’s return to the Roland Garros quarterfinals following her run to the final in 2019.
In the quarterfinals, Vondroušová will face world number one and defending champion Iga Świątek, who dispatched Potapova 6-0, 6-0, the same player who had eliminated Wang Xinyu earlier in the tournament.
