On June 3rd, the bottom half of the women’s singles fourth round at the 2024 French Open kicked off. In the opening match on Court Philippe-Chatrier, YONEX-sponsored player and tournament No. 4 seed Jabeur defeated Ukrainian star Svitolina with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-3, advancing to the quarterfinals of Roland Garros for the second time in her career after 2021.
In their previous three encounters, Jabeur held a 1-2 head-to-head record against Svitolina. Their last meeting was in the bronze medal match at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where Jabeur squandered a significant lead and was ultimately overtaken by Svitolina, missing out on a podium finish. This time around, Jabeur started strong with aggressive baseline play, maintaining a one-break advantage until the end of the first set, clinching it 6-4.
In the second set, Jabeur continued her impressive form from the back of the court, racing to a 4-1 lead. Although Svitolina fought back to break once in the sixth game, it wasn’t enough. Jabeur secured her spot in the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-3 victory, setting up a clash against either Paolini or Avanesyan in the next round.
