On July 5th, local time, the third round of the 2024 Women’s Singles at Wimbledon kicked off, with Chinese player Zhu Lin taking the court first on Court 15. After a fierce battle lasting two hours, Zhu Lin was defeated by world No. 123, New Zealand’s Chinese-heritage player Lulu Sun, 6-7(4)/6-7(6), ending her run in the last 32. Sun has once again improved her best Grand Slam performance, continuing her surprising journey.

Zhu Lin had five break points in her opponent’s first two service games but failed to capitalize, while Sun was the one who broke first, establishing a 4-2 lead. Zhu managed to break back in Sun’s serve to force a tiebreak in the first set. Sun then won three consecutive points from 4-4, securing the set 7-6(4).
Zhu took an early break in the second set for a 3-1 advantage, but Sun responded with a break of her own, leveling the match. The score seesawed, leading to another tiebreak. Unfortunately for Zhu, she squandered two consecutive match points at 6-4, conceding four straight points as Sun clinched the second set 7-6(6) and the match.
Sun will face either Sakkari or Raducanu in the Round of 16 of the Women’s Singles.
