Carlos Alcaraz: Winning Both Wimbledon and Roland Garros in the Same Year Is a Huge Challenge, But I’ll Give It My All

Alcaraz has now won Grand Slam titles on hard (2022 US Open), grass (2023 Wimbledon), and clay (2024 Roland Garros) surfaces. With the opportunity to win back-to-back French and Wimbledon titles in the same year, he commented, “Winning a Grand Slam is tough. Going from clay to grass, two completely different surfaces, two completely different games. Of course, I will try my best to achieve it, hoping to add my name to the list of players who have won Roland Garros and Wimbledon consecutively. I know it’s going to be difficult, a big challenge for me, but I think I’m ready. I had a good preparation week, feeling comfortable and ready to give 100% at this year’s Wimbledon.”

Reflecting on life after Roland Garros, Alcaraz mentioned that it took him a few days to come down from the excitement of his victory: “After winning the final, there were many things to do – interviews, press conferences, drug tests. It was late when I finally left Roland Garros. Then, I had dinner with my team and close ones to celebrate until late. The next morning, more interviews and photo sessions followed. After such an intense match, it’s hard to fully enjoy the celebration because your body is exhausted after all the adrenaline and emotion. In the following days, I needed time to process and understand what I had accomplished, which took a few days.”

Despite a surprise loss to British number one Jack Draper in the Queen’s Club second round, Alcaraz assured that he has prepared thoroughly for Wimbledon through training: “After Queen’s, I had ample time to adjust and improve through practice. The day after my loss, I started working on my movement and shots on grass. I’ve had several high-quality training sessions with top players, and I know I’m ready for the tournament.”

Alcaraz confirmed his participation in the Paris Olympics, emphasizing his commitment to giving his all for a medal despite the short turnaround: “I am 100% sure I will participate in the Olympics; it’s a fantastic event, and it’s my first time, so I’m really looking forward to it. I will give everything for my country. There’s very little time between the Olympics and Rogers Cup, so I’ll decide later if I’ll play in Canada.”
