On June 15, the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 Nottingham tournament concluded. Former champion and sixth seed Karolina Pliskova fought through three sets and two tiebreakers to defeat top seed Ons Jabeur 7-6(8)/6-7(3)/7-5. This marked her first victory over a top 10 player in over a year, and her third semifinal appearance of the season.
Reflecting on her win against the top seed, Pliskova commented, “I think it was a great match. She’s one of the toughest opponents on grass. We’ve never actually played on grass before. After today, I think she’s one of the favorites for Wimbledon, having been in two finals there. I’m just happy to be through.”
In the semis, she will face Harriet Dart, who defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-3/7-6(4) to reach her first WTA grass court semifinal.
The other semifinal in the bottom half of the draw will feature an all-British clash between third seed Emma Raducanu, who advanced due to a retirement from Katie Boulter, and wildcard entrant and Grand Slam champion, she is targeting her second tour-level final.
Additionally, in the doubles event, Zhang Shuai and Nicole Kriz advanced to the semifinals after defeating Kaitlyn Christian and Giuliana Olmos 6-7(3)/6-3/10-7 in the second round.
