On June 15, the WTA 250 event in Hertogenbosch saw the semifinals unfold. Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu defeated qualifier Martina Galli 6-4, 6-2, advancing to her first tour-level final in two years and seventh overall (second on grass) of her career.
In the opening set, Andreescu broke Galli’s serve in the first game. Although Galli responded with a break to level the score at 4-4, the Canadian regained the initiative by breaking in the seventh game and held on to that advantage until the end of the set, winning it 6-4.
In the second set, Andreescu maintained her dominance, securing two breaks to lead 4-1, effectively sealing the victory. Both players held their serves in the following games, with Andreescu closing out the match 6-2.
Reflecting on her return to a tournament final, Andreescu said, “It means everything. My career hasn’t been easy, and all the hard work I’ve put in since my injury in 2019 has finally paid off. I never gave up, and this is really significant for me.”
In the final, Andreescu will aim to end a five-year title drought. Her opponent will be determined by the outcome of the semifinal between Samsonova and Alexandrova, which is currently in a deciding set. The winner will face the challenge of playing two matches in one day.
